Dudley was born on December 9, 1922 in Abbeville, LA in Vermilion Parish. He was the son of Alpha and Almay Broussard. He graduated from Meaux High School. After high school he was proud to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1945. He was assigned to serve on the USS McKean, a Wickes Class Destroyer, and later went on to serve on the USS Smalley during WWII. After his discharge he returned to Abbeville, where he married the love of his life, Hazel Durke, his wife of nearly 65 years. They had one son, Billy Wayne. He moved his family to Baton Rouge where he graduated from Business College and began working for Broussard Paint & Wallpaper. He later started his own business, Dudley Broussard Paint Contractor. He and his family lived in Baton Rouge for 35 years before retiring and returning to Abbeville.

His love of life was shown in everything he did. He loved spending time with his family and friends, usually bar-b-queing, frying fish or making his famous jambalaya, always with a smile on his face. He was an avid gardener and spent many hours working in his vegetable and flower garden and loved to share his produce with family and friends. He was a stranger to no one. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel, one sister Zoie Leblanc, and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son Billy Wayne Broussard; his parents, Alpha and Almay Broussard; brothers, Paul, Joseph, Evest, Harris, Alex, Clemsay Broussard; and sisters, Lily and Tilla Broussard.

The family would like to thank Dr. Kerry Schexnaider of Maurice, and the staff at Vermillion Health Care Center in Nunez for their excellent care.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Friday, January 21, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Saturday, January 22, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. until time of services.
