Ruby Landry Borel

January 13, 1917 — February 10, 2011

Abbeville—Funeral services will be held Monday, February 14, 2011 at a 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of Ruby Landry Borel, 94, who died Thursday, February 10, 2011 at her residence in Abbeville.

She will be laid to rest at St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery with Father Russell Harrington officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers will be Blair Purpera, Cody Sellers, Garrett Borel, Ryan Williams, Caffery Penn, and Bryce Purpera. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Mickey Borel and Daniel Lalande.


Ruby was a member of the Abbeville Garden Club, Les Amis Homemakers, Lions Club Auxillary and Knights of Columbus Auxillary. She also was a former Boy Scout Troop Leader.

She is survived by her two sons, Donald Borel of Abbeville and Neil Borel and his wife, Lisa of Baton Rouge; four daughters, Deanna Purpera and her husband, Joseph "Pepper" of St. Gabriel, Millie Williams of Baton Rouge, Janice Penn and her husband, Mitch of Houston and Camille Sellers and her husband, George of Mandeville; brother, Leo Landry of Houston; sister, Ione Marie Clark of Maurice; grandchildren, Erin Borel, Gina Purpera, Blair Purpera, Jamie Howland, Cody Sellers, Hilary Sellers, Nicole Williams, Garrett Borel, Ryan Williams, Caffery Penn, Alexandria Penn and Mallory Borel; and great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Purpera, Bryce Purpera and Gianna Purpera.

She was preceded in death by her husband, O'Neil Borel; son, Paul Borel; parents, Olifus Landry and the former Clalie Bernard; brothers, Riley Landry, Wilbur Landry and Wilbert Landry; sisters, Adlass Lalande, Idell Landry, Doris Hensgens and Allie Jordan; and son-in-law, David Williams.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Sunday, February 13, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 5:00 p.m.; Monday, February 14, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. when the procession will depart for the church.
