Abbeville—Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville honoring the life of Bernice Abshire Duhon, 88, who died Monday, February 14, 2011 at American Legion Hospital.
She will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery with Deacon Randy Hyde officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers will be Darin Demarcay, Sr., Darin Demarcay, Jr., Brent Demarcay, Jerome Abshire, Truman Abshire, and Scotty Lanclos. Honorary pallbearers will be Adam Abshire, Leo Abshire, Slaton Lasalle, Seth Demarcay and Chris Lanclos.
Bernice will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was a loving mother and grandmother. In her spare time she loved cooking and sewing for her family and friends. She was employed at Mt. Carmel Elementary School in the cafeteria for more than 20 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Elwanda D. Demarcay; three brothers, Leo Paul Abshire of Leroy, Adam Abshire of Meaux and Truman Abshire of Abbeville; three sisters, Mrs. Lloyd (Stella) Duhon of Abbeville, Eve Richard of Abbeville and Mrs. Curtis (Rosa Mae) Roche of Abbeville; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raphael E. Duhon, parents, Adam Abshire, Sr. and the former Alicia Thibeaux; daughter, Marlene Duhon Lanclos; brothers, Alfred Abshire, Otis Abshire and Alex Abshire; sisters, Alice LeBlanc and Jeanne Schexnaider; and sons-in-law, Leroy Demarcay and Nerry Lanclos.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Wednesday, February 16, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. until time of services.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Compass Hospital and the American Legion Hospital located in Crowley for their constant care and concern during her illness.
