Gueydan—Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at a 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Velgin “Ms. Ayo” Benoit, 81, who died Saturday, April 2, 2011 at the Gueydan Memorial Guest Home. She will be laid to rest at Gueydan Cemetery with Reverend Jason Vidrine officiating the services.
She is survived by three sons, Joseph Charles Benoit Jr. and his wife, Katy of Gueydan, Mitchell Benoit and his wife, Anita of Gueydan and Jeffery Benoit of Gueydan; eight daughters, Peola Benoit and her husband, Floyd LeBlanc of Gueydan, Delores and her husband, Don Trisler of Mississippi, Theresa and her husband, Dale Smith of Gueydan, Mary Benoit and her husband, Lonnie Hargrave of Morse, Barbara Benoit and her husband, Leonard Clark of Lyons Point, Lena B. and her husband, Mark Trahan of Kaplan, Jenny and her husband, Ted Richard of Lafayette and Melissa Benoit and her husband, Ricky Mouton of Gueydan; one brother, John Aldes Cormier of New Iberia; twenty-four grandchildren; and twenty-six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. "Ayo" Benoit; one daughter, Ella Rose B. Leleux; two sisters; and seven brothers.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Gueydan, 311 Fourth Street, on Monday, April 4, 2011 from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, April 5, from 8 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. when the procession will depart for the church.
