Verba Francis Abshire
September 2, 1931 — April 13, 2011
He will be laid to rest at Abshire Cemetery with Rev. Gregory Simien officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Trudy Abshire, Larry Abshire, David Soulier, Ryan Soulier, Bruce Vincent and Damon Vincent.
Verba was an avid hunter and a winner of several duck and goose calling championships.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nelline Cardonia Abshire of Maurice; daughter, Patricia Abshire Soulier and her husband, Jeffrey of Maurice; two step grandsons, David Soulier and his wife, Edith of Gonzales, Ryan Soulier and his wife, Maggie of Denton; five step grandchildren, Cameron, Zoe, Grace, Audrey and Caroline Soulier; brother, Gilbert Abshire of Houston; numerous nieces and nephews; and numerous great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rene Abshire and the former Agnes Abshire; two brothers, Hilton Abshire and Edward Abshire; and sister, Lilly Abshire David.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Thursday, April 14, 2011 from 2:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Friday, April 15, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. when the procession will depart for the church.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Acadiana nurses for their constant care and concern during his illnesses; especially Julia.
