Funeral services will be held for Lorraine Breaux Sirmon, 86 who passed away on May 17, 2007 at Lafayette General Hospital. Services will be held at 11 :00 a.m., Friday, May 18, 2007 at Vincent Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend John Vining and Father Keith Milligan will conduct the service. Internment will follow at Graceland Cemetery. The family requests that visitation be observed from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 17, and 9:00 a.m. until service Friday, May 18,2007. During her lifetime, Mrs. Sirmon was active in several community organizations including the Abbeville Garden Club, Abbeville Woman's Club, Abbeville Country Club Auxiliary, and Senior Fortnightly Club ofAbbeville. She also served as Chairman of the Bicentennial Celebration Committee for this area, having been appointed by the governor. It was through this committee's efforts that the Abbeville Tourist Information Center was built and opened as a Bicentennial project in September 2001 Lorraine and Revis were honored as Pioneers of the Year by the Abbeville Cultural and Historical Alliance. Lorraine married Revis Sirmon in 1942. She was a constant source of strength and support in all of his endeavors, and worked side by side with him in the early years as they built Coastal Chemical Company. She was a source of inspiration for her family and friends, working tirelessly on whichever projects were at hand. She enjoyed gardening and was an accomplished artist. Most of all, she loved entertaining and cooking for family and friends. A most gracious hostess, her home was the setting for many memorable occasions. Family always came first, with her grandchildren holding a special place in her heart. The following quote from the Bible is a summation of Lorraine's life. "Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. " - Colossians 3: 14. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered, for she was the glue of love, which held the family together. Mrs. Sirmon is survived by her husband of 65 years, Revis Sirmon; one son, Johnny Sirmon; one daughter, Rebecca Stokes Joy and her husband, John Joy; two grandson, Dannon Stokes and Patrick Stokes and his wife, Virginia Broussard Stokes; five great grandchildren, Ryan Stokes, Courtney Stokes, Jonathan Stokes, Anne Marie Stokes and Leigh Stokes; and one great-great grandchild, Jansen Stokes. Mrs. Sirmon was preceded in death by her father, John Breaux and mother, Marie LaPlace Breaux Bernard. Pallbearers will be Johnny Sirmon, Dannon Stokes, Patrick Stokes, Ryan Stokes, Jonathan Stokes and John Joy.
