Carbett Joseph Duhon

Abbeville—Funeral services will be held Monday, July 25, 2011 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of Carbett Joseph Duhon, who died Friday, July 22, 2011 at Abbeville General Hospital.

He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery with Rev. William Blanda and Fr. Donald Theroit officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Carbett "Trey" Duhon, III, Jonathan Duhon, Austin Duhon, Israel Dyson, Neal Abshire, and Joe Duhon.

Honorary pallbearers are Abbeville Mayor Mark Piazza, Mayor Pro Temp Francis Plaisance, Councilman Joe Hardy, Councilman Francis Touchet, Councilman Wayne Landry and Jude Pere.


Born in 1928 in the Meaux community, he was a lifelong resident of Abbeville. He spent most of his career serving customers throughout the area as a Sales Representative at Frenzel Motors for over 27 years. Upon his retirement in 1990, he began his public service for the City of Abbeville as a City Councilman for over 21 years, dutifully serving his constituents up to the time of his passing. Elected for 6 consecutive terms in District C, he thoroughly enjoyed serving his district and working with the entire team at City Hall. As a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen, he served as an usher for over 30 years and was a past member of the Knights of Columbus.

He found great joy in his family and family gatherings. He will be remembered for his love for cooking and his ability to repair and "fix" things, An extremely moral, honest and decent man, he also embodied a deep faith in God, integrity and a strong work ethic. He also had a great love for baseball, which began in his early years coaching in Abbeville's Babe Ruth League and continued throughout his life.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Dyson Duhon of Abbeville, La.; two sons, Carbett Duhon, Jr. and his wife Cynthia Dugas Duhon of Abbeville, La., Robert "Bob" Duhon and his wife Linda LaFont Duhon, Abbeville, La,; four grandchildren, Carbett “Trey” Duhon, III and his wife Jennifer of Waller, Tx., Jonathan Blake Duhon and his wife Linda from Lewisville, Tx., Alisha Marie Duhon of Baton Rouge, La., and Austin Christopher Duhon of
Lafayette, La.; two great grandchildren, Jonathan Daniel Duhon and Cadi Anna Duhon of Lewisville, Tx.; and his uncle, Joe Duhon and wife Lois of Abbeville, La.; four nieces, Gloria Duhon Vincent and husband Tommy of Leroy, La., Teresa Duhon Steen of Abbeville, La., Debbie Duhon Jindia and husband Sanji of Lafayette, La., Connie Duhon Fontenot and husband Charles of Rayne, La.; two nephews, Byron Duhon and Clint Duhon of Abbeville, La.; three sisters in law, Lucille Touchet Duhon of Abbeville, La., Theresa Dyson Abshire of Abbeville,
La., and Cora Dyson Morgan of Folsom, La.; one brother in law, Israel Dyson of Maurice, La.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elian Duhon and Edith Touchet Duhon; two brothers, Ledian Duhon and Whitney Duhon; one infant sister; and two infant grandsons, Jonathan Emile Duhon and Jacob John Duhon.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Sunday, July 24, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. the funeral home will reopen at 8:00 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2011 untill time of service.
