Msg Clifford P. "Peta" Hymel Sr. (Ret.)

Kaplan—Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at a 1 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Clifford Peter Hymel, 77, who died Saturday, July 23, 2011 at his residence. He will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend David Broussard officiating the services.

Mr. Hymel was born on October 19, 1933 in Boutte, Louisiana. He attended Hahnville High School from which he graduated in 1953. In 1955, he married his high school sweetheart, Joan Katherine Talbot. He served 25 years in the United States Army and Army Reserve, in several units but mostly prominently within the 984th, 35th, 46th and 610th Engineer companies. Mr Hymel's service took him and his family to many locations in the United States and overseas, including Giessen and Wiesbaden, Germany and Vicenza, Italy. He completed three tours of Vietnam between the years of 1967 and 1971 before retiring to Larose, Louisiana in 1980. He was an employee of Woolco, Estay Seafood of Grand Isle, Ace Trucking Company and finally the United States Army Corps of Engineers, at Schooner Bayou Control Structure (Little Prairie, LA) with whom he worked 11 years before retiring in 1996. Mr. Hymel enjoyed reading, watching old westerns, listening to old Cajun and country music, traveling, fishing, building things, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan Katherine Talbot Hymel of Kaplan; one son, Clifford P. Hymel Jr. of Luling; two daughters, Tina Marie Hymel Gresham and Mary Katherine Hymel, both of Kaplan; two sisters, Anna Hymel Dufrene of Paradis and Delores Hymel Bernard of Luling; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Hymel; his mother, Annie Robert Hymel; and two brothers, Percy and Elmor Hymel.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, July 27, 2011 from 10 a.m. until the procession departs for the church.
