Gueydan—Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Vincent Funeral Home - Gueydan honoring the life of Evelyn Marie Istre Smith, 75, who died Sunday, August 21, 2011 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. She will be laid to rest at Gueydan Cemetery with Reverend Jason Vidrine officiating the services.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Emery J. Smith of Gueydan; four sons, James "Deany Boy" Smith and his wife, Betty of Gueydan, Dwayne Paul Smith and his wife, Sandra of Abbeville, Roger "Cookie" Smith and his wife, Pam of Gueydan, and Darren Dale Smith of Gueydan; two sisters, Gladys Istre Hargrave and Anna Belle Istre Meaux, both of Kaplan; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Odel Istre and the former Ogenia Romero; and four brothers, Paul, Otis, Rene and Otto Istre.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Gueydan, 311 Fourth Street, on Monday, August 22, 2011 from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, August 23, 2011 from 8 a.m. until services.
