Abbeville—Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at a 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of Sarah Ann Davidson Gaspard, 79, who died Monday, August 29, 2011 surrounded my family.
She will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery with Rev. Msgr. Richard Mouton officiating the services. Sarah will be laid to rest next to Newton Gaspard, her husband of 56 years who preceded her in death in May of 2010. Pallbearers will be Brandon Gaspard, Benjamin Gaspard, Brett Gaspard, Duane Davidson, Dr. Logan Kosarek and Ryan Daily. Honorary pallbearers will be Tristin Gaspard, Dereje Gaspard and Tom Haysley.
Born in Manila, Philippines, Sarah met her husband, Newton while he was serving in the Navy and later moved to South Louisiana. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Sarah worked as a registered nurse and was known for her loving nature, good humor and faith in God.
The matriarch of a large and close-knit family, she was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Gaspard McGovern; five sons, Robert Gaspard, James Gaspard, Thomas Gaspard, Jeffry Gaspard and Edward Gaspard; brother, Arnold Davidson; half brother, Ernest H. Cooperider; sister, Jeanette Maderazo; twenty-two grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Newton F. Gaspard; parents, Arthur Dwaine Davidson and the former Augustina Calisin; and brother, Arthur Dwaine Davidson, Jr.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 from noon until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Wednesday, August 31, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. when the procession will depart for the church.
