Kaplan—Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan honoring the life of Lelia Landry Richard, 81, who died Sunday, September 4, 2011 at Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital. She will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend David Broussard officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers will be Lynn Richard, Cedric Richard, Stoney Richard, Ross Richard, Casey Meaux, and Dusty Bell.
Ms. Lelia helped her mother who owned Landry's store in Kaplan for eleven years before opening Gulfway Sporting Goods on LA Highway 35 in Kaplan. Together with her husband, they owned and operated Gulfway for over 30 years.
She is survived by two sons, Chester Richard and his wife, Joyce and Russell Richard and his wife, Phyllis "Mike", all of Kaplan; one daughter, Loretta R. and her husband, Dale Bell of Kaplan; one sister, Lillian Morgan of Rayne; nine grandchildren, Lynn Richard, Stephanie Terry, Cedric Richard, Stoney Richard, Ross Richard, Carlos Meaux, Casey Meaux, Courtney Courville, and Dusty Bell; and 13 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Leo Richard; her parents, Randolph and Beulah Landry.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Monday, September 5, 2011 from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, September 6, 2011 from 8 a.m. until services.
