Abbeville—Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 1, 2011 at a 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Velta Elmire Trahan, 97, who died Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Abbeville General Hospital.
She will be laid to rest at St. Alphonsus Cemetery with Reverend Joseph Breaux officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Kyle Vincent, Travis Broussard, Ryan Pere, Tim Baudoin, Chad Broussard, Josh LeBlanc and Brannon Meaux.
She is survived by her two children, Elwood Broussard and his wife, Ruby of Kaplan and Geraldine Broussard Vincent and her husband, Rayward Vincent of Maurice; five grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and seventeen great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Avery Broussard; second husband, Rene Duhon; father, Galvey Trahan; mother, Leah Broussard; granddaughter, Sheila Pere; and three sisters, Etta Frederick, Lois Dubois and Hazel Mouton.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Friday, September 30, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, October 1, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. when the procession will depart for the church.
The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and staff of Hospice of Acadiana, Dr. Lahasky and staff, and all employees of Eastridge Nursing Center for their kindness, compassion and gentle care given to their mother at her time of need.
