A mass of Christian burial celebrated by Father Neil McNeil will be held at 10am Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at St. Mary Magdalen Church for Ernie Guidry, 70, who passed away on July 21, 2007 in his home. He will be laid to rest at St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery.
Ernie was a native of Abbeville, Louisiana. He graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1955. While at Mount Carmel, he was a member of the “Iron Dozen” football team. After graduation, he enlisted in the Navy and served on board the USS Iowa. Upon returning, he worked as a Maintenance Foreman for Unocal. He retired in 1992 after 36 years of service. Throughout his life, Ernie was an avid supporter of Catholic education. He served on both the Mount Carmel and Vermilion Catholic School Boards, as well as the Vermilion Catholic Booster Club. He was also an active member of St. Mary Magdalen Parish where he served on the Parish Council, was a Eucharistic Minister, and loved singing in the choir. Though he played an important role in the community, the role of husband, father, and grandfather was closest to his heart. His invaluable teachings and examples of faith and family will live on forever in the hearts of those that knew and loved him
. He is survived by his wife Mathilde “Matsy” Latour of Abbeville, whom he was married to for 50 years. He is also survived by his five children and 22 grandchildren, Laurie and her husband Felix Legere and their four children, Leah, Andre’, Phillip, and Elise; Greg and his wife Alexis and their three children Matthew, Amy, and Eric; Gary and his wife Dawn and their six children, Jeannine, Camille, Craig, Kalyn, Madeline, and Stephan; Elizabeth and her husband Duane Dartez and their three children, Alexander, Anna, and Mathilde; and Catherine and her husband Scott Desormeaux and their six children Adam, Amelie, Cecile, Lydia, Marie-Elena, and Ella.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mount Carmel Development Fund or the Vermilion Catholic PJ Veazey Memorial Fund.
