Buna Babineaux "Maw" Michaud

March 16, 1928 — November 14, 2011

ABBEVILLE— A mass of Christian Burial for Buna Babineaux Michaud, 83, will be held Wednesday, November 16, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Roman Catholic Church with burial at St. Paul Mausoleum, Abbeville, La. Her grandson, Rev. Mark F. Melancon, pastor of St. Ann Roman Catholic Church in Mamou, La. will preside with other priests of the Diocese of Lafayette concelebrating. The pallbearers will be her grandsons. The readers will be her granddaughters.

Buna Babineaux Michaud was born on March 16, 1928, in Carencro, La., to Adolphe Babineaux, Sr. and Alicia Leblanc. She married Elvin Joseph Michaud on June 28, 1944, in Carencro, La. Five months later, Elvin was called to duty in Europe for WW II. When Elvin returned from WW II, they lived in Carencro, Lafayette, and then made their home in Abbeville, La. Buna was the bookkeeper for Michaud Brothers. She also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

Buna’s greatest joy was family. She planned many family gatherings during the holidays, on birthdays and for special occasions. She enjoyed family and friends being in her home sharing memories of years gone by. Little did Elvin know when he built a large shop for his masonry business that it would become “The Michaud Camp.” Maw has enjoyed many Saturday nights at the camp where the entire family has met almost every Saturday for the past 20 years for a great meal, bourrèe, and a time for everyone to visit. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren look forward to being with family at the camp every Saturday -- a tradition that will probably continue for many years to come.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Elvin Joseph Michaud, Sr. 8 children: Earline Marie Michaud; Norma Jane Buford, husband Robert Buford; Barbara Gale Melancon, husband Kenneth Mark Melancon; Judy Ann Shea; Cleveland Glen Michaud, Sr., wife Nancy Landry Michaud; Yvonne Ruth Gaspard, husband Paul Wayne Gaspard; Elvin Joseph Michaud, Jr.; and Rufus Dale Michaud, wife Vickie Morvant Michaud. 15 grandchildren: Tammy Lynn Broussard Gaspard, Bart Allen Broussard, Rev. Mark Francis Melancon, Todd Patrick Melancon, Lais James Ryder, Jr., Alicia Kaye Ryder, Dana Ryder Stelly, Cleveland Glynn Michaud, Jr., Marcus Roy Hebert, Dawayne Joseph Gaspard, Brenna Earline Michaud Hornsby, Genesia C-Ann Michaud Thompson, Michael Carl Michaud, Brett Dale Michaud, and Brock Joseph Michaud. 15 great grandchildren: Tristin Alan Gaspard, Trinity Sarah-Ann Gaspard, Alex Michael Broussard, Ali Michelle Broussard, Cleveland Glynn Michaud III (Traé), twins Lahna Jolie Michaud and Lucy Nell Michaud, Onna Marie Thompson, Emma Elizabeth Thompson, Ethan Andrew Richard Thompson, Ava Grace Hornsby, Daylan Dawayne Ryder, Brant Wayne Stelly, Alayna Kaye Henry, and one on the way, Corbin Allen Hebert. One sister, Ruby Babineaux Dalfrey.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Adolphe Babineaux and Alicia Leblanc Babineaux; brothers Esmea Babineaux and Adolphe Babineaux, Jr.; one sister Mary Lena Babineaux Cormier; her paternal grandparents, Joseph Elma Babineaux and Marie Adolphina Prejean; her maternal grandparents, Albert Leblanc and Marie Emarante Prejean.

Visitation will be at Vincent Funeral Home of Abbeville on Tuesday, November 15, 2011, from noon until 11:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday, November 16, 2011, from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
