Francis "Jeb" Guidry

Kaplan—Funeral services will be held Friday, November 25, 2011 at a 1 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Francis "Jeb" Guidry, 74, who died Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Heart Hospital of Lafayette. He will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend David Broussard officiating the services.

Francis Guidry was born in Kaplan in 1937. He graduated from Kaplan High School in 1955. He attended Southwest Louisiana Institute, now UL of Lafayette and also received his Masters Degree from McNeese University. He was an educator and coach at Maltrait Memorial Catholic School then he began his career at Kaplan High School where he worked as a teacher and coach, then assistant principal and later retired after serving as Kaplan High's principal for 13 years. He was also the Vermilion Parish School Board Instructional Supervisor and external assessor for LATAP programs. He was employed by the Vermilion Parish School Board for 32 years and truly enjoyed working with children. He also enjoyed working at the Kaplan swimming pool as recreation director for the City of Kaplan and managed the pool for over 18 years. Mr. Jeb was the first to be named outstanding secondary principal in Vermilion parish. He was the 1991 outstanding principal by Southwest Louisiana Chapter of the council for Exceptional Children in seven parishes. In 2010 he was honored, along with Anna, by the Diocese of Lafayette as Maltrait supporter of the year. He was past president of Principals in Vermilion Parish, past chairman of LHSAA, a member of the Vermilion Parish Retired Teachers Association, the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association, and a member of the Fellowship for Horticulture Progress in a five state area. Mr. Guidry also enjoyed several hobbies which included 200 orange trees, woodworking, and hunting. His family was very important to him and they enjoyed time spent together sharing many unique family traditions like dressing for Halloween, traveling to Mardi Gras in Houma, and spending vacations in Destin, Florida each year.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Anna Dartez Guidry of Kaplan; five children, Tammy and her husband, Craig Hebert of Kaplan, Lynn and her husband, Robert Moss of Erath, Mike and his wife, Shannan (Garret) Guidry of Kaplan, Neal and his wife, Tricia (Turnley) Guidry of Kaplan, and Monica and her husband, Scott Edwards of Kaplan; thirteen grandchildren: Brady and his wife, Taylor (Broussard) Hebert, Brett Hebert and Miss Whitney Willis, Maddie Moss, Tori Moss, Lance Moss, Kaleb Guidry, Caroline Guidry, Claire Guidry, Anna Guidry, Trent Turnley, Quinn Guidry, Delaney Edwards, and Maddie Edwards; three great grandchildren, Aaron, Austen, and Asa Hebert; two sisters, Viola M. Pillsbury of Port Arthur, Texas and Helen G. Trahan of Kaplan; one brother, Daniel and his wife, Gloria Mouton of Kaplan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Killise Guidry and the former Roseanna Suire; and one sister, Ethel M. Guidry.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Thursday, November 24, 2011 from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m.; Friday, November 25, 8:30 a.m. until the procession departs for the church.
