Rufus Joseph Palombo

September 4, 1926 — January 8, 2012

Abbeville—Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at a 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of Rufus Joseph Palombo, 85, who died Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Abbeville General Hospital.

He will be laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery with Rev. Msgr. Charles Mallet officiating the services.

Mr. Palombo was an accountant and assistant manager for Vermilion Farmers Co-op before his retirement. He was a lifelong resident of Vermilion parish, member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and St. Mary Magdalen Parish. He was also a veteran of the United States Navy.

He is survived by his son, Darrell J. Palombo and his wife Joan of Nashville, TN; the mother of Darrell's children, Ann D'Aquin Palombo of Lafayette; daughter, Linda Marie Palombo and fiance' Shane Louviere of Abbeville; three grandsons, Douglas Michael Palombo, Benjamin John Palombo and David Andrew Palombo; two great granddaughters, Audrey Adaire Palombo and Adele Margaret Palombo; and brother, Joe Palombo, Jr.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Durke Palombo; parents, Joseph Palombo, Sr. and the former Azena Robin; and daughter, Catherine Ann Palombo.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Monday, January 9, 2012 from 12 (noon) until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
