Abbeville—A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 21, 2012 at a 1:00 p.m. at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Church honoring the life of Irene Joyce Trahan Noel, 84, who died Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
She will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery with Rev. Keith Landry officiating the services. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Kevin Schiffer, Greg Schiffer, Mark Devenport, Matthew Devenport, Taylor Noel and Andre Noel.
Mrs. Noel received her B.S. degree in education from S.L.I. and taught in Vermilion Parish for several years. Before her lenghty illness, she was an avid reader and very involved in her family geneology. She was a gifted artist, seamtress and cook, with an exceptional eye for design and decorating. She was closely involved with all aspects of her husbands farming operation throughout his career.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Theodule "Nomi" Pierre Noel, Sr. of Abbeville; sister, Marie Mazil Trahan Couvillon; four children, Catherine Bass and her husband Ken of Houston, Christine Devenport and her husband Dan of Abbeville, Samuel Noel and his wife Pamela of Abbeville,and Theodule Noel, Jr. and his wife Anne of Abbeville; eight grandchildren, Kevin Schiffer, Greg Schiffer, Mark Devenport, Matthew Devenport, Taylor Noel, Andre Noel, Amanda Noel and Emma Noel; and five great grandchildren, Victoria Schiffer, Madison Schiffer, Zoe Schiffer, Arlie Devenport and Haies Devenport.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonce Trahan and the former Evie Landry; and an infant brother, Aubry Trahan.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Friday, January 20, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, January 21, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. when the procession will depart for the church.
The family offers special thanks to Lafayette General Hospital, Hospice of Acadiana, and the sitters who have been by her side for the past 5 years. Also thanks to Dr. Jacque Noel, Dr. Jon Leleau, and Dr. Sam Schuffler.
