J. Rodney Richard

Kaplan—Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 2, 2012 at an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of J. Rodney Richard, 92, who died Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital surrounded by his family. He will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend David Broussard officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers will be Christian Richard, Andrew Richard, Kevin Romero, Jordan Schexnayder, Lucas Tate, and Shirley Wade Broussard. Honorary pallbearers will be Lloyd Hollier, Wayne Guidry, Doug Vincent, and Dale Vincent.

Mr. Richard was one of the original members of the Kaplan Lions Club, having been a member since 1964 and serving as President and Secretary/Treasurer for many years. He was past Grand Knight of the KC Council 2913, as well as, a past District Deputy of the LA Council of the Knights of Columbus. He also served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Kaplan Volunteer Fire Department from 1966 to 2001.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Velma F. Richard of Kaplan; two sons, Jimmy Richard and his wife, Sandy of Abbeville and Jude Richard and his wife, Terrie of Kaplan; one daughter, Mary Richard of Lake Charles; five grandchildren, Christian Richard and his wife, Julie of Kaplan, Mandy and her husband, Kevin Romero of Kaplan, Andrew Richard of Abbeville, Amelia R. and her husband, Jordan Schexnayder of Arnaudville, and Stephanie and her husband, Lucas Tate of Ville Platte; and two great grandchildren, Katherine Elise Richard and Luke Alexander Romero.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Moise Richard and the former Agnes Hulin; one brother, J. Leeward Richard; and his sister-in-law, Hattie Richard.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 6 p.m.; Thursday, February 2, 2012 from 8 a.m. until the procession departs for the church.
