John Mergist

August 24, 1922 — August 26, 2007

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at a 2:00 p.m.. Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Church honoring the life of John Mergist, 85, who died August 26, 2007 .
He will be laid to rest at Bancker Cemetery with Father Mathew Mullamangalam officiating the services.
He was a veteran of the United States Army who served our country during World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ida Libersat Mergist; two sons, James Mergist and his wife Marian of Denham Springs and Kenneth Mergist of Henry; one daughter, Linda St. Germain and her husband Devin of Henry; one brother, Donald Mergist of Abbeville; two sisters, Wanda Melebeck and Eloda Peltier both of Erath; four grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and one great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bellus Mergist, Sr. and the former Eugenie Hebert; one infant son, John Mergist, Jr.; three brothers, Pervis Mergist, Douglas Mergist and Bellus Mergist, Jr.; and one sister, Dorothy Mae Mergist.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff in the Memory Care Unit at Maison du Monde.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home, 209 South St. Charles, Abbeville, Tuesday, August 28th from 10:30 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Wednesday, August 29th from 8:00 a.m. until time of services.
