Leonard Bourque Sr.

November 23, 1933 — March 28, 2012

Kaplan—Funeral services will be held Friday, March 30, 2012 at a 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Catholic Church honoring the life of Leonard Bourque Sr., 78, who died Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at his residence. He will be laid to rest at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery with Reverends William Rogalla and Keith Landry officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers are Joshua Bourque, Luke Harrington, Kyle Bourque, Jonathon Bourque, Kale Scheuermann, Trent Menard, and Gabe Marceaux.

Mr. Leonard worked for Unocal for 33 years. He also owned the Pecan Island Grocery for 15 years. He was a school board member for the Vermilion Parish School Board from 1986 to 1990 and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was actively involved with Holy Rosary, Cabrini, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping, and spending quality time with family.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margarite Conner Bourque of Kaplan; six children, Barron Bourque and his wife, Lenez of Thibodeaux, Rhonda Bourque Harrington and her husband, Brent of Meaux, Richard Bourque and his fiancee, Yvonne of Kaplan, Leonard Bourque Jr. and his wife, Lisa of Kaplan, Mac Bourque and his wife, Carolyn of Ville Platte, and Stephanie Bourque Scheuermann and her husband, Karl of Mandeville; sixteen grandchildren, Richelle Bourque Marceaux, Lana Harrington Menard, Joshua Bourque, Ashley Bourque Waguespack, Luke Harrington, Douglas Bourque, Jaimee Bourque, Krystle Harrington Hood, Leah Bourque, Julie Bourque, Kyle Bourque, Jonathon Bourque, Kale Scheuermann, Mary Beth Bourque, Aimee Bourque, and Callie Scheuermann; twenty great grandchildren; and one sister, Myrna Bourque White of Kaplan.

He was preceded in death by his son, Phillip Bourque; and his parents, Dwire and Eve Bourque.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Acadiana for the compassion that they showed the family during this time, especially Ms. Julia and Ms. Nancy, the nurses who took such great care of him.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Thursday, March 29, 2012 from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday, March 30, 2012 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Hall in Pecan Island from 9 a.m. until the services.
