Abbeville— Mr. Joseph Dave Broussard departed this life Saturday, April 7, 2012, at his home in Meaux. Mr. Broussard was a retired rice farmer and horseman who enjoyed life and loved to travel. He was born September 9, 1914, near Maurice, one of 10 children born to Alexander O'Neil Broussard and Ophelia Trahan Broussard.
In life, Mr. Broussard was a loving son, brother, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and great-grandfather; a friend to many and a stranger to none who crossed his path. In death he goes to join his parents; brothers Necess Broussard, Elias Broussard, Opta Broussard, Eddie O. Broussard and Edia Broussard; sisters, Rosita Simon, Avia Broussard, Lizzie Lormand and Eula LeCamus Broussard; his loving wife of 59 years, the former Lula Mae Meaux, a son; Dave Wayne Broussard and numerous friends.
He is survived by one son; Patrick Ricky Broussard and wife, Phyllis Landry Broussard of Meaux; four daughters, Rosemary Sagrera and husband Wayne Sagrera of Mouton Cove, Brenda Faye Landry and husband Dr. Gordy Landry, Jr. of Abbeville, Linda Charlene Beckett and husband Charlie Beckett of Abbeville, and Christina Ann Mayard and husband Leonard Mayard, Jr. of Meaux; fifteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
Pallbearers will be Mr. Broussard's grandsons: Stephen Sagrera, Kevin Sagrera, Craig Sagrera, Raphael Sagrera, Nicholas Landry, Alexander Beckett, Chuck Broussard, Spencer Broussard, Leonard Mayard III and Joseph Mayard.
Services will be held at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Abbeville at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 11, 2012. Visitation will be at Vincent Funeral Home in Abbeville from 1:30 PM- 9:00 PM Tuesday, with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. and from 8:30 AM until 1:30 PM Wednesday.
