Funeral services will be held Friday, September 14, 2007 at a 1 :30 p.m.. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of Oris Joseph Luquette, 65, who died September 12, 2007 at Abbeville General Hospital.
He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery with Father Greg Chauvin officiating the services.
Oris was an avid and lifelong fisherman that dates back to his youth where he communed with nature in and around the bayous that surround Live Oak Plantation. His love for fishing brought him in contact with acquaintances who became lifetime friends.
He was a bachelor with no biological children of his own and was affectionately known as "Uncle Oris" by the vast number of nieces, nephews and other young people around him.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Lahasky and his staff at Abbeville General and Dr. LeBouef with Hospice of Acadiana for their kindness, their kind words of support and their professionalism shown Oris and his family during their time of need.
He is survived by four brothers, Roy Luquette of Phoenix, Arizona, Lawrence Luquette of Astoria, Oregon, Albert Luquette, Jr. of Abbeville and Oran Luquette of Kaplan; and two sisters, Pat Dean of Baton Rouge and Priscilla Desormeaux of Abbeville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Luquette and the former Ena Lapointe; and siblings Ridley Luquette and Theresa Peltier.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home, 209 South St. Charles, Abbeville, Thursday, September 13th from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, September 14th from 8:00 am. until 1 :15 p.m. when the procession will depart for the church.
