James Dale "Jim" Girouard

July 17, 1925 — April 17, 2012

Kaplan—Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan honoring the life of James Dale Girouard, 86, who died Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Eastridge Nursing Center. Reverend Farley Painter and Reverend Jim Girouard Jr. will be officiating the services.

“A grouchy old man with a loving heart,” James “Jim” Girouard lived a long and profitable life. He was a man who stood by the principles that he felt were right and would not ever veer from what he knew to be true. Dad enjoyed people and therefore built a very successful career in banking. He worked in that area until he retired in 1988. He was a great example of honesty and integrity. Through his example he modeled to countless people how life should be lived. He taught us to love and accept everyone regardless of their skin color, social status, or culture. We always had people from all walks of life in our home and Dad always found a way to bless those around him with whatever he had. Dad enjoyed suppers with the guys and was actually a darn good cook. Dad had three special ladies in his life and loved each one in a unique way. He was definitely happiest whenever he was married. Kids and grandkids were always exciting to him as long as they were not there for too long, “remember he was a grouchy old man with a loving heart”.

After Dad's death we heard stories of his administrative days at the bank and learned that he was almost feared in that arena but also very respected and loved. His employees spoke of his joking ways and of his care for them. The last days of his life were not his fondest; however they were days of many life lessons. Through them he learned that he was extremely loved and also that he was important to the people around him. Through them he also learned to give to those around him, even when he didn’t feel like it. On behalf of Jeanne, Diane, and Jim, we want to thank you for your prayers and your care.

He is survived by one son, Jim Girouard Jr. and his wife, Kathy of Bossier City; two daughters, Diane McLaughlin and her husband, Duane of Las Vegas, Nevada and Jeanne Fleuriet and her husband, John of Abbeville; four stepdaughters, Suzanne Harris of Abbeville, Connie Domingue and her husband, Jimmy of Midlothion, Texas, Cindy Sellers and her husband, Wayne of Abbeville, and Elizabeth Gaspard and her husband, Darrel of Abbeville; two sisters, June Lee of St. Louis, Missouri and Carol Busby of Marietta, Georgia; one brother, J.C. Girouard of Salt Lake City, Utah; 19 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Olga Diagle Girouard and Florence Domingue Girouard.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Sunday, April 29, 2012 from 1 p.m. until services.
