Bernard Bennett Bohrer

June 17, 1925 — April 20, 2012

Abbeville—A Mass of Christian Burial and services honoring the life of Bernard "Benny" Bohrer, 86, will be held at 12:00 noon, Tuesday April 24th at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. Benny, as he was known to family and friends, passed away peacefully Friday April 20th at Maison du Monde nursing home with his family by his side. He will be laid to rest at St. Paul's Cemetery Mausoleum.


The family requests that visitation be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Monday, April 23, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.
The family will also have a visitation on Tuesday April 24th at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church from 11:00 a.m. until service begins at noon.

Mr. Bohrer is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Jane Rogers Bohrer; their 3 daughters Brenda Bohrer Manard and husband Robert Manard of Metairie; Stephanie Bohrer Funderburk of Abbeville, and Resa Bohrer Mouton and husband Mark Mouton of Abbeville; his sister Esther Bohrer of Abbeville; his five grandchildren, Pamela Sandoz, Robert Lynn Manard, IV, Jennifer Sandoz Schafer and husband Chris Schafer, Wendy Manard, Maryclaire Manard and 2 great grandsons, Ethan Primeaux and Matthew Gwozdz.

Mr. Bohrer was preceded in death by his father Harry Bohrer and his mother Tenel Menard Bohrer; his sister Ruby Bohrer Welborn.

Pallbearers will be Richard Firmin, Tommie Rogers, Robert Lynn Manard, IV, Rudy Rodriguez, David Rogers and Norton White. Honorary Pallbearers, Dr. Howard Alleman, Judge Marcus Broussard, Brent Delcambre, Dr. Corbet LeBouef, Purvis Meaux, J. F. Noel, Guion Klienpeter, Beryl Stander, and Eddie Duplantier.

Benny was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Parish and a lifelong resident of Abbeville. He served many years as a Eucharistic Minister visiting the infirmed at home and in the hospital. He was a Marine Corps Veteran who served in the Pacific during WWII. Benny built a very successful career as the owner of several businesses, including Bohrer Chemical and Supply, American Pools, Gulf Coast Mobile Homes, and Cypress Village mobile home park.

One of Benny's greatest pleasures was spending time with his family and his many lifelong friends.

The family wishes to express gratitude for the exceptional care of Hospice of Acadianna and also to the staff of Maison du Monde for their compassionate, gentle, and loving care shown each day.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to Mt. Carmel Elementary School or Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503, or the charity of your choice.
