Abbeville—Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 3, 2012 at a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anne Catholic Church honoring the life of Roland Joseph Harrington, 80, who died Monday, April 30, 2012.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janis Mayeux Harrington; two daughters, Stella L. Harrington and Denise M. Harrington; brother, Dayton Harrington; and grandchildren, David S. Little and Camille L. Harrington.
He loved life, raising a family, running a business and farming. Captivated by the challenge and freedom of flying, Roland owned and operated Harrington Flying Service for 40 years. He was president of the Vermilion Parish Drainage Board for the past 35 years. Roland was a veteran of the United States Air Force in which he served our country from 1951-1955. While an accomplished pilot and farmer, Roland was most proud of the achievements of his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Waldo R. Harrington, Sr. and the former Stella Nunez; brother, Waldo R. Harrington, Jr.; and sister, Goldie H. Meaux.
He will be laid to rest at St. Anne Cemetery with Rev. Keith Landry officiating the services. Pallbearers will be David S. Little, William Romero, Sammy Noel, Joey Couvillion, Randy Broussard and Patrick Hebert. Honorary pallbearers will be Edwin Hebert, Steve Hebert and Charles Jeansonne.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 from 12:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Thursday, May 3, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. when the procession will depart for the church.
