Bertha Leger

August 13, 1924 — May 25, 2012

Kaplan—Funeral services will be held Monday, May 28, 2012 at a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Marie Bertha Leger, 87, who died Friday, May 25, 2012 at her residence. She will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend David Broussard officiating the services.

Marie Bertha Bell Leger has given all of herself to her husband and family. There are so many things that made her such a special part of the lives of her family - from Sunday dinners and sewing clothes for her grandchildren, to crocheting, knitting, weaving afghans and making quilts, ceramics, tarts, preserves, chow-chow, pepper jelly - she did it all - all legacies that will live on through the lives that she touched.

She and her husband Adam were active members of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kaplan. Her involvement in the community included the Catholic Daughters, the Lady’s Altar Society and the Cajun Quilters for many years. Her strong faith, religious values and humble ways are a wonderful example to all of us. She patiently accepted whatever the Lord sent her way, without complaint or criticism. She is the “glue” or some would say “CERTO” that holds the family together.

She is survived by four sons, Ronald Leger and his wife Tasha of Leroy, Darrel Leger and his wife Patty of Lafayette, Brennie Leger of Lafayette, Tony Leger and his wife Chona of Kaplan; seven granchildren, Christine and her husband Matt Cravets of Carlsbad, California, Francine and her husband Kevin Guarino of Abbeville, Nikki and her husband Daniel Chapman of Maurice, Ana Leger of Church Point, Marcelle and her husband Coy Courtois of New Orleans, Parichat "Gip" Santapun of Lafayette, and Ian Leger and his wife Amor of Cebu, Philippines; eight great grandchildren, Megan and Reed Guarino both of Abbeville, Hannah Rose Cravets of Carlsbad, California, Seth Chapman of Maurice, Izabelle Courtois of New Orleans and Andrea, Kaiyah and Adam Anthony Leger all of Cebu, Philippines.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty-four years, Adam Leger Jr., parents, Alcee Bell and the former Adonia Abshire, one sister, Nettie Roche and one brother, Wilfred Bell.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to her sitters, Barbara Touchet, Angela Harrington, Nedia Vincent and her wonderful neighbor, Ellen Roche. They would also like to thank the staff of Kaplan Home Health, Mr. Newton Trahan, Doctor Randall Faulk and his staff. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Maltrait Memorial School – 612 N. Hebert Ave. Kaplan, LA 70548.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Sunday, May 27, 2012 from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.; Monday, May 28, from 8 a.m. until services.
