John Ray Guidry

Kaplan—Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 21, 2012 at an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Mission Chapel honoring the life of John Ray Guidry, 72. He will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend David Broussard officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers will be: Shirley Wade Broussard, Nelson Boutte Sr., Spencer Nunez, Jr., Keenen Guidry, Jacob Powell, and Thomas Guidry. Honorary pallbearers will be Lonnie Guidry, Brent Guidry, Harold Guidry, Kenneth Boudreaux, Sr., Levores Boutte, and Jason Hebert.

On June 14, 2012 at 8:00 p.m. God called another soldier. John Ray Guidry was born on April 13, 1940 in Leroy, Louisiana to the union of Lessaint and Cecelia Guidry. Ray, as he was better known, was the second child of seven. He was a carpenter for 51 years and later became a licensed electrician and plumber. He was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Melba Jones Guidry of Kaplan; one son, Brent Anthony Guidry of Kaplan; one daughter, Evelle Friend and her husband, Larry of California; two brothers, Lonnie Guidry and his wife, Althea of Erath and Harold Guidry and his wife, Ann of Rayne; two sisters, Geneva Boudreaux and her husband Kuehlin of Kaplan and Joyce Turner, also of Kaplan; his aunt, Amie Bailey of California; uncles, Clarence Fusilier of Maurice and Lawerence Fusilier of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren, Evan, Tommy, and Telea Mosley; and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lessaint and Cecelia Guidry; one brother, Lessaint Guidry Jr.; and one sister, Lydia Guidry Broussard.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Mission Chapel, 901 N. Frederick Avenue, on Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 8 a.m. until services.
