Joseph "Dalton" Touchet

August 24, 1928 — July 21, 2012

Joseph “Dalton” Touchet, one month short of his 84th birthday, entered into eternal rest on the evening of July 21, 2012.

His family will receive friends for a Memorial Service at Vincent Funeral Home at 300 N. Eleazar in Kaplan between 10:00 am and 12:00 noon. Light refreshments to be served. Rosary at 12:30 pm and the Funeral Service Mass at 1:00 pm at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Saturday, August 4.

Dalton was born August 24, 1928 in Kaplan, Louisiana, a son of the late Dewey Touchet and Noamie Schexnider Touchet.

He enlisted in the Army and fought in World War II, and was stationed in Germany. His abilities included Expert Marksman.

He worked at Lercy Bouillion’s restaurant as a cook for many years, and was employed as the Head Chef at Crosby Hotel in downtown Beaumont, TX.

He was the Owner of Touchet’s Bar on Main Street in Kaplan for 15 years. Home of “The Best Hamburger in Louisiana.”

He worked as a Security Guard at the home-base for Placid Oil Company in Houma, LA. Following retirement, he continued to work as a Security Guard, in subsequent years, Terrebonne General Hospital in Houma and the Kaplan Rice Mill.

Dalton is survived by his Wife, Marie “Gladys” Roche Touchet; Daughter, Cheryle Touchet Guillet and Son-In-Law, Dr. Glen G. Guillet of Beaumont, TX; Brother, Elton Touchet and Wife, Ouida of New Iberia; Half-Brother, James Touchet of Kaplan, Half-Sister, Sandra Touchet of Lafayette; and two Uncles, Levi & Savie Schexnider of Kaplan. He has three surviving Brother-In-Laws, Adam Roche, Jr. of Georgia; Joseph Clifton Roche, PhD and Wife, Donna of Mexico; and Harold Paul Roche and Wife Elen of Kaplan. Nieces and Nephews: Robert, Johnny and Ronnie Touchet; John Daven, Steven, Arthur Paul, Callus, Shari Beth (Deceased), Shane Ryan, Tanya Gail, Tiago and Angel Roche.
He was predeceased by his Brother, Louis “L.J.” Touchet; and Brother-In-Law, John Alton “Al” Roche.

Dalton was active in the Catholic Church as an Usher. He was active, as a Lifetime Member, holding many ranks, in the VFW, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and Woodmen of the World.

In his spare time he enjoyed reading, watching sports, both professional and local teams, and spending time with friends. He loved to gamble and always spoke of “Winning the Big One.”

He was kind to animals, small children and the elderly. He managed to be the full-time Caregiver to his Mother and Aunt, Ozite Schexnider Meaux, until their passing.

He had a very kind heart and quick wit, and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
