Kaplan—Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at a 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church honoring the life of Alice Abshire Foreman, 84, of Indian Bayou, who died Saturday, August 18, 2012 peacefully in her home surrounded by family. She will be laid to rest at Abshire Cemetery with Reverend Gregory Simeon officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Frank Heikamp, John Heikamp, Mitchell Schexnyder, Travis Foreman, Bennit Foreman, and Damian Foreman. Honorary Pallbearers are Cory Foreman and Hank Menard.

Alice was born on June 30, 1928, and was the second of Clodis and Olita Simon Abshire’s six children. She attended Indian Bayou School, where her children, grandchildren, and now great grandchildren have all attended. On October 6, 1946, Alice Abshire Foreman married the love of her life, Dalton Joseph Foreman, in Crowley, LA at St. Michael’s Cathedral. They made their home in Indian Bayou and had five children together: Donald, Charles, Darlene, Eldridge, and Clyde.

Dalton died at the young age of 40, leaving Alice with their five children to raise; the oldest was 17 and the youngest was 6. Though often very difficult, she raised all five of her children on her own. Alice made her living as a seamstress and also loved working in her garden as well as caring for her family. Even after all of her children were grown, she still remained very close to them and their families by having everyone over each and every Sunday for a huge dinner that would take her all morning to prepare. Her door was always open, morning and afternoon for a fresh pot of coffee and nice, long visit. Holidays were a very special time for Alice, especially Christmas when she opened her home and heart to all.

Alice’s favorite color was purple and she loved flowers of all kinds. She always had to her hair done on Fridays so she could look nice for Saturday afternoon mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Leroy, LA. For those of us who knew and loved her, there will never be anyone like her.

She is survived by her children: Donald Foreman and wife, Mylinda Terro Foreman, Charles Foreman and wife, Vicki Simon Foreman, Darlene Schexnyder and husband, Kenneth R. Schexnyder, Eldridge (Eek) Foreman and wife, Toni Touchet Foreman, and Clyde Foreman and wife, Debbia Meche Foreman; ten grandchildren: Stephanie Foreman Heikamp, Tonya Foreman Heikamp, Cory Foreman, Heather Menard Bradley, Hank Menard, Mitchell Schexnyder, Tiffany Foreman Bearb, Travis Foreman, Bennit Foreman, and Damian Foreman; fifteen great grandchildren: Katelyn Heikamp, John Paul Heikamp, Tyler Heikamp, Jenna Foreman, Lexi Stelly, Julia Bearb, Bradyn Bearb, Norah Foreman, Tanner Foreman, Lindsay Foreman, Paige Foreman, Kyler Foreman, Sumner Bradley, Romin Bradley, and Kennedy Menard; her three sisters: Camilia Abshire, Ruby A. Harrington, and Hilda Leger; and one brother: Alton Abshire.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dalton Joseph Foreman; parents, Clodis Abshire and Olita Simon Abshire; and one brother, Vernis Joseph Abshire.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to all the caregivers who helped take care of their mother. Special thanks to Nedia Benoit, Susan Credeur, Mary Pelly, Audrey Hebert, and Ranada Bigbie. And also, many thanks to her beautician for many years, Faye Robinson. Alice was very close to each and every one of them.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Monday, August 20, 2012 from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, August 21, 2012 from 8 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. when the procession will depart for the church.
