Mary Evelyn Cessac Megison

September 29, 1915 — August 23, 2012

Abbeville—Funeral services will be held Monday, August 27, 2012 at a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of Mary Evelyn Cessac Megison, 96, who died Thursday, August 23, 2012 at her home surrounded by family.

She will be laid to rest at Esther Community Cemetery with Reverend William C. Blanda officiating the services.

Evelyn was a graduate of SLI and taught multiple grade levels at both Cheniere au Tigre and Mouton Cove Elementary schools. She was an accomplished seamstress and when time permitted, she also read and wrote poetry.

Evelyn devoted her entire adult life to her husband and family. She was a devout Catholic and will be sorely missed by family and relatives.


She is survived by her children, Dr. John W. Megison, Sewilla Megison Bourgeois, T. Edward Megison, J. Kevin Megison, P. Eric Megison and Leah Megison Martin and 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman E. Megison; father, Antoine Cessac, Sr.; mother, Zulma LaPlace Cessac; brothers Henry Cessac and Antoine Cessac, Jr.; sisters: Celeste Cessac Lacour, Gertrude Cessac Hebert, Theresa Cessac Sherer, Amelia Cessac Hoffpauir and daughter-in-law, Maude B. Megison.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Sunday, August 26, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed 7:00 p.m.; Monday, August 27, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. until time of services.
