The first child born to Eugene and Ernestine (Ditch) Broussard, while working on Grand Chenier, Eleanor was later raised on the family home place on Pecan Island. Back then called “Elna” which she thought was her real name until she got her social security card and found that it was actually “Eleanor”. She was a member of the first graduating class of Abbeville High School. She attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and spent her working career as a school teacher with the Vermilion Parish School Board. She taught at various schools in the parish including Pecan Island (where she met her husband, Leroy F. Dubose from Indian Bayou) and later Indian Bayou Elementary School, where she was teaching at the time of her retirement.

Eleanor and Leroy adopted both of their children from Volunteers of America of New Orleans, Louisiana. Paul Ellery Dubose “Zero” was adopted in 1953 at just over one year old and Sheryll Lynn Dubose Schwander “Tick” in 1956 at approximately three months old. They raised their children on Pecan Island until Leroy retired as principal of the school and they moved to his old Dubose family home place in Indian Bayou where they had built their home for retirement. Eleanor enjoyed family time, gardening, reading, search word puzzles- till just a few weeks prior to her death, and watching the birds and squirrels she’d feed daily on her back porch.
