Roy was born in Abbeville on August 21, 1927 to the late George Elva Dartez and the former Ouida Frederick. He attended Maurice Elementary and Abbeville Elementary during his early school years. In 1940, after the flood, his family moved to Kaplan and he graduated from Kaplan High School. In November he was drafted and served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion LeJeune-Boudreaux Post 271.

Prior to his retirement, he worked for Mouton's Appliance, as an electrician. In April of 1947 he met his future wife, Callie Rose and they were married on November 10, 1948 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Crowley. He worked at the United States Post Office until 1953, then was co-owner of the Kaplan Meat Market until 1961. In 1962, he became the owner and operator of Dartez Electrical as an electrical and plumbing contractor. In 1981 he was one of the contractors for the new Holy Rosary Rectory in Kaplan. After fifty-plus years he was forced to retire due to a lengthy and valiant struggle with heart problems.

Roy had an incredible, sharp and witty sense of humor with a very jovial spirit. His courage and positive outlook on life allowed him to face many challenging obstacles. He lived his life by a set of rules and regulations and adhered to them. His values were courage, honesty, loyalty, and being very punctual.

He will be remembered for his love of music, dancing, cooking barbecue and boiling seafood on weekends for his family and friends. He also took great pride and joy in mowing his lawn and keeping his yard well trimmed. He received several yard and garden of the month awards in the past from the Chez Elles organization.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, the former Callie Rose Richard; three sons, Michael Lynn of Carthage, Texas, Delwyn Francis and wife Anna of Kaplan, and Charles Don and wife Vicky of Baton Rouge; seven grandchildren, Kyle of Highlands, Texas, Kelly of Wichita Falls, Texas, Kerri Beth of Carthage, Texas, Lucas and Amber of Kaplan, Schuyler and wife Valerie of Kaplan, and Amber and Nicolas Dartez of Baton Rouge; one great granddaughter, Zoe Clare Dartez; one brother, Curley J. Dartez and wife Helen of Pasadena, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his paternal grandparents, Ophey Dartez and the former Ernestine Mouton; and his maternal grandparents, Antoine Frederick and the former Uzea Frederick.
