Funeral services will be held Monday, December 10, 2007 at an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of John Joseph Vidos, Jr., 80 who died Thursday, December 6, 2007 at his residence in Abbeville. He will be laid to rest in St. Paul Cemetery with the Rev. Donald Theriot officiating the services. He is survived by his wife, Camille and six daughters, twelve grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. They are Maria Hunt and husband Dr. Ralph Hunt of Kansas City, Missouri; Veronica Guidry and husband Ron Guidry and their daughters, Eve and Ada Richard; Tamara Kreft and husband Michael Kreft of St. Louis, MO and their children, Emily, John, and Laura; Freda LeBlanc and her husband Mitchell LeBlanc and their children, Madison, Rhett, and Isadora; Lucia Viator and her husband Neil Viator and their son, Seth; Andrea Vidos and her husband Stephen Rogers and their children, Nikki Vidos, Marcel Rogers and Beau Rogers. Dominic Richard is John's great-grandson. He is also survived by five brothers. Fred Vidos of Brownsville, TX; James Vidos of Morgan City, LA; Jerry Vidos of Deer Park, TX; Carl Vidos of Brownsville, TX; and Wayne Vidos of Morgan City, LA. Six sisters are also his survivors: Rose Mae Broussard of Franklin, LA; Mary Ann Prado of Morgan City, LA; Liz Gayman of Brownsville, TX; and Betty Houghtaling of Brownsville, TX; Lucy Wilkinson of Harlingen, TX; and Faith Boynt of Franklin, LA. He was preceded in death by his father, John Joseph Vidos, Sr., mother, Myrtle Froreich; one brother, Melvin “BO” Vidos; and three grandchildren, Gage Rogers, Bibiana and Georgette LeBlanc. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Ralph Hunt, Ron Guidry, Michael Kreft, Mitchell LeBlanc, Neil Viator and Stephen Rogers. While working at KROF as a D.J., he met and married the love of his life, Camille Sellers. Mr. Vidos was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII. Mr. Vidos had to lie about his age in order to enlist. He was a devout Catholic having been a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, served as a reader at St. Mary Magdalen. John put several young men through the seminary, one of whom is now a Bishop in El Salvador (Bishop Elias Bolanos). Mr. Vidos helped the St. Josephs Chapel in 1997 and donated the Immaculate Heart of Mary Statue in 1994. John was proud to serve as a State Farm Insurance Agent for over 33 years, served on the Abbeville city council, member of the Chamber of Commerce, and the Department of Tourism. Mr. Vidos served on The State Insurance commission under Governor David Treen from 1981 until 1983. Some of his interests are, football, camping, traveling and gardening. John used to fly his own plane. He also loved to design homes. Visititation will be from 4 PM until 8 Pm, Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007 and from 8 AM until service Time Monday, Dec. 10, 2007.
