Jason William Weill

April 11, 1978 — October 3, 2012

Abbeville, La.-Memorial services will be held at Vincent Funeral Home in Abbeville, La., celebrating Jason’s life, on Saturday, October 13, 2012, at 11 A.M. Reverend John Vining, of the Methodist Church of Abbeville, will conduct the service. There will be visitation from 9 A.M. until 11 A.M.

Jason loved Abbeville and lived here all of his life.

Jason achieved much in his life with great perseverance. He was a graduate of Abbeville High School, ULL and was passionately working for services for the disabled. After graduating from ULL, he attended Partner’s In Policymaking and completed the course. He then began his journey to be an advocate for disabled persons. In fact, he called himself a “watchdog for rights of the disabled.”

Through his work for the disabled, he often testified in front of the Louisiana legislature to campaign for legislation for disability services. Jason also appeared on numerous radio talk shows, including WWL radio in New Orleans in order to promote services for the disabled. Jason also worked tirelessly with LACAN (Louisiana Citizens for Action Now) through Family Helping Families; was on the Louisiana Developmental Disabilities Council; was a Board member of the Louisiana Rehabilitation Counsel; a member of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Health); a board member of the Regional Autistic Society; a member of the LSU Human Development Center’s Constituent Advisory Council; and participated in various other organizations. He recently completed a course as a life coach to help people with disabilities who are grieving. Ms. Lisa Boudreaux worked with him and wants to continue their work and call it “Jason’s Dream.” Jason loved to travel the State, doing his life’s work of helping the disabled.

Jason touched many lives and will be missed deeply by his colleagues and family. He loved politics; sports, especially the Abbeville High Wildcats and ULL Cajuns; Tulane baseball; yoga; and classical guitar. He loved to attend sports events with his Dad. Jason also loved cats, especially his beloved cat, Bibi.

Survivors include his parents, Linda Singleton Weill and Karl Weill, Jr. of Abbeville, Louisiana; his sister and brother-in-law, Melissa Weill Lacombe and Jason Lacombe, along with their daughter, Madeline Lacombe of Katy, Texas; an Uncle, William Weill and his wife Pam, of Lowell, Oregon; and an Aunt, Carla Wormser of Jeanerette.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ollie and Ann Singleton; an Uncle, Peter Singleton; and his paternal grandparents, Karl Weill, Sr. and Florence Goetschel Weill.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions can be made to the Office of Disability Services for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette or the Autistic Society of Acadiana.

It is the wish of the family that the memorial service be a tribute to honor Jason and his incredible determination and accomplishments. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

Let’s not mourn Jason’s passing. Let us celebrate a life beautifully lived.
