Abbeville—Funeral services will be held Monday, October 15, 2012 at a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. James Catholic Church honoring the life of Paul Odey Suire, 83, who died Thursday, October 11, 2012.
He will be laid to rest at Hebert Cemetery with Deacon Joe Hebert officiating the services.
After serving in the Navy, Paul came home to Abbeville to marry his true love. He graduated from Southwestern Louisiana Institute with a degree in Accounting. He became co-owner of Oilco Machine Shop in Lafayette, Louisiana. For many years, he coached the Bankers, a Babe Ruth team in Abbeville. His efforts and the efforts of his players earned a league championship in 1971. After retirement, his days were filled with the tasks of caring for his garden and chickens, lively conversation and contentment. His life was shaped by his Catholic faith, the dedication to his wife and family, and his love of country. He will be missed.
He is survived by his wife, Philomene Hebert Suire; two sons, Sam Suire and his wife, Darlene of Ingram, TX and Stanley Suire and his wife, Tracey of Abbeville; two daughters, Celeste Sigur and her husband, Ross of Abbeville and Patty Landry and her husband, Paul of New Iberia; brother, Jack Suire; sister, Annie Lou Yasich; twelve grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alphe Suire and the former Elore Trahan; son, Mark Suire; daughter, Julie Christine Suire; siblings, Laura Belle Harrington, Sabre Suire, Inez Frederick, Norris Suire and Henry Suire.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Monday, October 15, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. when the procession will depart for the church. A rosary will be prayed at 11:00 a.m.
