Funeral services will be held at a 2 pm Mass of Christian burial at St. Theresa Catholic Church for Norman Whitney Broussard, 70, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 30 at his residence. Visitation will be held at Vincent Funeral Home in Abbeville on Tuesday, January 1 from 2 pm until 9 pm and will continue Wednesday, January 2 from 8 am until service time. Entombment will follow at St. Paul’s Mausoleum. A rosary will held at the funeral home at 7 pm on Tuesday, January 1. Mr. Broussard was a life-long resident of Abbeville, leaving only to serve his country in the U. S. Army from 1955 to 1958. He held many sales positions throughout his career, his final one before retirement was at Frenzel Motors. Norman also provided twenty years of city leadership as Councilman-at-Large, serving five terms from 1986 to 2006. Sixteen of those years he was also Mayor Pro Tempore. He was instrumental in completing or securing various city projects, including the renovation of the old Audrey Hotel into the present City Hall facility, construction of two fire stations, and several water, wastewater and utility projects. June 21, 2006, was designated as Norman Broussard Day in Abbeville for his distinguished service to the community. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Laura Mae Bernard Broussard of Abbeville; one daughter, Laura Elizabeth Broussard Touchet and husband, Chad of Fort Worth, Texas; two grandchildren, Alaina and Nathalie Touchet. He was preceded in death by his parents, Whitney Broussard and Gurnis Davidson; and one sister, Irene Broussard. Pallbearers will be Gibson Rick Bessard, Chad Touchet, Karl Broussard, John Boudreaux, Raymond Davidson, and Harvey DuBois. The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Ellis and staff, Timari Tullier and Coleen Faubion of Acadian Home Care of Abbeville, Vermilion Dialysis Center, and Hospice of Acadiana. Special thanks also to Gibson Rick Bessard, Rita Reaux, Hattie Coleman, and Teesie Landry for their loving care of Norman. The prayers and care of many other family members and friends are deeply appreciated as well. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Lafayette, LA 70506.
