Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 3, 2008 at a 2 pm Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church for Winniefred Miller, 88, who passed away peacefully at the family home in Abbeville on Sunday, December 30, 2007.
Burial will be in St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery.
Ms. Miller lived much of her life in New Orleans, where she worked under Chief Justice Frank Summers of the Louisiana State Supreme Court and Judge Albert Tate of the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal. She also enjoyed volunteering at Charity Hospital. Prior to living in New Orleans, Ms. Miller was a secretary in the Abbeville area and a secretary for the State of Louisiana in Baton Rouge.
Winniefred was a member of the Third Order Lay Carmelite Community.
A devoted sister, aunt, and friend, she will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by two brothers, Vernon Miller of Lafayette and Francis Miller of Abbeville; three nieces, Phyllis M. Taylor of New Orleans, Odile L. Segrest and husband James of Abbeville and Judith M. Falcon and husband Sam of Abbeville; three nephews, William H. Miller, Jr., and wife Alice of Abbeville, Byron A. LeBlanc and wife Pat of Metairie, and John O. Miller of Abbeville; great nieces, Sarah S. Graham and husband Rob of Metairie, Caelyn R. LeBlanc of Annapolis, Md., Anna-Vaughn M. Segrest of Lafayette, Rachel M. Segrest of Abbeville, and Marie Louise Miller of New Orleans; great nephews, William H. Miller, III, of Abbeville, Joshua A. Segrest of Abbeville, Loren C. LeBlanc and wife Katherine of Metairie, Atticus LeBlanc and wife Alison of Atlanta, Ga., John Benjamin Segrest of Lafayette, Daniel C. Segrest of Baton Rouge, Lyle P. LeBlanc of Metairie, John “J.J.” Miller of Abbeville, and James Miller, III, of New Orleans; and great-great nephews Ty Miller, Brett Miller, and Finnan S. LeBlanc.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jean Baptiste Miller and the former Odile Crouchet; three brothers, William, James and John Miller; four sisters, Mabel Caldwell, Audrey Summers, Rachel LeBlanc and Annie Vaughn Miller; a nephew, James B. Miller, Jr., and a great nephew, Tyson L. LeBlanc.
Visitation will be held at Vincent Funeral Home in Abbeville Wednesday, January 2, from 2 pm until 9 pm and will continue Thursday, January 3 from 8 am until service time. A rosary will be prayed at the funeral home at 6 pm on Wednesday.
