A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, January 17, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of Rufus John Simon, 72, who died January 15, 2008 at Abbeville General Hospital. He will be laid to rest in St. Mary Magdalen Mausoleum with Father Greg Chauvin officiating the services.
He is survived by his wife, Sallie Vincent Simon of Abbeville; two sons, Dwayne Simon and his wife Ramona and Mark A. Simon and wife Dianne all of Abbeville; a daughter, Jeannette Simon Henry of Lafayette; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Alfred Vincent of Abbeville; two sisters, Lillie S. Simon of Abbeville and D’Ella S. Boudreaux of New Iberia; seven grandchildren, Christy S. Cart, Ryan Simon, Mitchell Simon, Mandy Simon, Michelle S. Baldock, Allie Henry and Jainie Henry; four great grandchildren, Garrett Simon, Gracie Simon, Gabrielle Simon and Amelia Cart.
Mr. Simon was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Noah and Eliza Leger Simon; father-in-law, Mr. Alfred Vincent; and a brother, Elzie Simon.
Rufus was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was employed for 43 years by Riviana Foods ending his career as a mill supervisor.
Pallbearers include, Dwayne Simon, Mark Simon, Ryan Simon, Mitchell Simon, Jeff Cart and Josh Buldock.
The family request that visitation be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and reopen on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
