Joseph Dudley "Bruce" Broussard

August 11, 1924 — November 13, 2012

Kaplan—Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 17, 2012 at an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Joseph Dudley Broussard, 88, who died Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Abbeville General Hospital. He will be laid to rest at Leroy Cemetery with Reverend William C. Blanda officiating the services.

Bruce was the owner/president of Kaplan Farm Equipment Co. for 30 years and was a board member of the Deep South Dealers organization. He was a very active parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church who served on the parish council, taught catechism, and was a lector and extraordinary minister of Holy Communion for many years. He and his wife Sable volunteered their cooking skills to the Bereavement Ministry, October Fete and the Maltrait Memorial Catholic School Spring Bazaar.


A true outdoorsman he enjoyed tending his extensive vegetable gardens, jogging or joining friends and family for his favorite pastime, hunting. He was very passionate about jogging and participated in several charity marathons. Bruce and Sable were married for over 60 years and were able to travel together and experienced much joy and happiness. Though he also experienced sorrow and trials during his life he will be remembered as a loving and loyal husband, father and grandfather whose quick wit and deep rooted faith always carried him through life’s difficult moments.

He is survived by two daughters, Rose Anna Trahan and husband, Michael and Mary Broussard; daughter-in-law, Lisa Ledet Broussard, all of Abbeville; brother, Daniel P. Broussard and wife, Lydia; two sisters, Wilda Broussard and Fadra Landry, all of Kaplan; two granddaughters, Amanda Trahan Vienne and husband, Benji and Clare Broussard, all of Abbeville; and great grandchildren, Parrish, Ellis and Evann Vienne, and Ty Hoffpauir.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sable Rose Landry Broussard; three sons, Reynold, Joseph "Eddie", and Neal Broussard; father, Phillip Broussard; mother, Dora Landry Broussard; stepmother, Delia Bernard Broussard; sister, Pauline Landry; brother, Paul Broussard; and daughter-in-law, Annick Meaux Broussard.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142) in honor of his patron saint.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Saturday, November 17, 2012 from 8 a.m. until the procession departs for the church at 10:45 a.m.
