Abbeville—Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of Winnie Champagne Richard, 83, who died Friday, December 7, 2012 at her residence.
She will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery in Abbeville with Rev. Louis Richard officiating the services and Deacon Byron Soley will be Deacon of the mass.
She will be remembered as a dedicated wife, loving mother and grandmother. She dedicated her life to her husband and children and cherished time with her family.
Winnie, alongside her husband, Red Richard established Richard’s Seafood Patio in 1957 and they operated the business until 1983.
Winnie is survived by her three sons, Alvin Richard and wife Deborah, of Erath, Calvin Richard of Abbeville, and Patrick Richard and wife, Sonia of Germany; three daughters, Theresa Guidry and husband, Jason of Abbeville, Florine Vincent and husband, Billy of Abbeville, and Diane Frederick of Abbeville; four sisters, Myrtis Davidson of Sulphur, Zola Frith of Port Arthur, TX, Helen Broussard of Erath, Wilda Pondeer of Alabama; two brothers, Hartwell Champagne of Abbeville and Harry Champagne of Lafayette; fourteen grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ovey B. Richard, Jr.; her parents Clerphe and Lucille Champagne; sister, Beverly Primeaux; and grandson, Jason Guidry, Jr.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Monday, December 10, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Tuesday, December 11, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. when the procession will depart for the church.
