Verna Jeanne Petry Cormier

May 25, 1923 — December 17, 2012

Abbeville—Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 20, 2012 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of Verna Jeanne Petry Cormier, 89, who died Monday, December 17, 2012 at Abbeville General Hospital.

She will be laid to rest at St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery.

Verna belonged to many organizations including the Catholic Daughters of America, Gingham Maid Homemakers Club and the Vermilion Parish Homemakers Council. Her hobby of taking pictures and keeping scrapbooks leave family members memories to last a lifetime.

She is survived by her husband, Alex Cormier of Abbeville; two sons, Deacon Frank Cormier and his wife, Connie of Lafayette and Jerry Cormier of Lake Charles; daughter, Jeannie Cormier Comeaux and her husband, Daniel of Abbeville; grandchildren, Rome Comeaux, Lisa Comeaux Detraz, Kyle Comeaux, Suzanne Veillon, Rachel Domingue and Katie Andrepont; and great grandchildren, Phillip Detraz, Alex Detraz, Patrick Comeaux, Cassie Comeaux, Nathan Veillon, Collin Veillon, Luc Domingue, Jude Domingue and Taylor Andrepont.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Kevin Comeaux; parents, Elie Petry and the former Mathilda Hebert; and sister, Willa Mae "Sis" Petry Fletcher.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Thursday, December 20, 2012, from 8:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. when the procession will depart for the church.
