Mitha S. Abshire

March 7, 1934 — December 30, 2012

Kaplan—Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at a 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Mitha S. Abshire, 78, who died Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital. She will be laid to rest at Abshire Cemetery with Reverend Kendal Faulk officiating the services.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Edison Abshire of Kaplan; two sons, Jody Abshire and his wife Julie of Kaplan, Kirk Abshire and his wife Tammy of Gary, Texas; two daughters, Pamela and her husband Charles Gaspard of Kaplan, Lori and her husband David Tate of Opelousas; one sister, Umae Gaspard of Kaplan; nine grandchildren, Jared and Derek Gaspard, Brandon Stone, Stevi Fitch, Josh Abshire, Jade LeBouef, Seth, Mallory and Camille Tate; and four great grandchildren, Sophie Grace LeBoeuf, Christian Stone, Courtlyn and Colin Gaspard.

She was preceded in death by one son, Jack Abshire; one grandson, Matthew Dillon Abshire; one great grandson, Chase Jared Gaspard; parents, Asa Simon and the former Emie Schexnider; five brothers, Whitney, Wilbe, Johnny, James, and Paul Simon; and three sisters, Leone Broussard, Eula Roche and Yolande Schexnider.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, January 2, from 8 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. when the procession will depart for the church.
