Ethel Bourque Deshotel

Abbeville—Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Church honoring the life of Ethel Bourque Deshotel, 83, who died Monday, January 28, 2013 at Abbeville General Hospital.

She will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery with Father Austin Leger officiating the services. Great granddaughter, Kaitlin LaBauve, will be trumpeter for the services.


She was a member of Disabled American Veterans and also the American Legion Auxiliary Post 29 of Abbeville. She enjoyed listening to French music and playing bingo.

She is survived by her daughter, Betty Lou Breaux Frederick and her companion, Jacen Bertrand of Abbeville; three sisters, Gladys Henry of Kaplan, Mary Ann Trahan of Kaplan, and Kathy Meaux of Abbeville; four brothers, Ben Bourque of Erath, Preston Bourque of Abbeville, Leroy Lege of New Iberia, and Ray Allen Bourque and wife, Jacky of Gunnison, CA; four grandchildren, Rebecca Frederick of Kaplan, Kathy Trahan and husband, Gilbert of Abbeville, Angela Guidry and husband, Randy of Lafayette, and Gail Mire of Erath; two step-grandchildren, Richard Deshotel Jr. and Christy Deshotel, both of Mamou; fifteen great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Samuel Breaux; second husband, Cubio Deshotel; parents; Ophe Bourque and Elodie Bertrand Lege; companion, Policar Landry; sister, Delta Latiolia; brothers, Raywood, Nelson, Rufus, Lovelace and Michael Bourque; and step-son, Richard Deshotel.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. until time of services. A rosary will be prayed at 1:00 p.m.

The family would like to thank the staff at Maison du Monde Living Center and nursing staff at Abbeville General Hospital for their compassion, care, and excellent service.
