Blanche Morgan Harkins

October 8, 1914 — February 15, 2008

Blanche Morgan Harkins, 93, lifetime resident of Vermilion Parish, passed
away on February 15,2008 in Abbeville, La. Mrs. Harkins was the widow of
Hartwell Harkins who died March 17, 1989. Her parents James S. and Amanda
Morgan, as well as her 13 siblings, predeceased her. Mrs. Harkins was born
October 8, 1914 in Lake Arthur, La., when her parents were residents of Pecan
Island, La. In the 1920's the family moved to Abbeville, La.
Mrs. Harkins is survived by her daughter, Beverly Harkins of Abbeville; her son,
H L "Sonny" Harkins and daughter-in-law Margie. She has three beloved
grandchildren; Bill, Tricia and David, and six great grandchildren all who live in
Houston, Texas. She also leaves many beloved nephews and nieces from her and
her husband's large families.
Her many friends were a constant source of joy and comfort in her life, enhancing
her quality of life by their love, presence and support. Special thanks are offered
to the kind caregivers at Eastridge Nursing Center and her personal caregiver, Ms.
Vincent.
Much of Mrs. Harkins' life in Vermilion Parish was directed to helping others.
She worked at various agencies bringing aid to the needy. Her services in church
activities at First Baptist Church of Abbeville were tireless and a joy to her life.
She served in various activities offering her services to fill the need.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 18, 2008. A
funeral service will follow at 1 :00 p.m. at Vincent Funeral Home with the Rev.
Noah Langley officiating. Internment to follow at Graceland Cemetery.
