Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at Vincent Funeral Home, honoring the life of Minnie King Hall Berry, 93, who died Sunday, March 2, 2008 at Abbeville General Hospital. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery with Reverend Keith Milligan officiating.
Mrs. Berry was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Teacher. She was born in Baton Rouge and at the age of five she and her family moved to Abbeville. She graduated from Abbeville High School in 1930 then from LSU in 1934 where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She later attended USL and received her Masters Degree. She taught at Erath High School, then at Abbeville High School where she remained for over 30 years. She taught English, speech, drama and debate and served briefly as librarian. She was a supervisor of student teachers for USL and in 1963 she was one of the co-founders of Abbeville High School’s Academic Awards Program. Mrs. Berry received the Abbey Players’ first Honorary Lifetime Membership. She was a member of the Abbeville Woman’s Club, having joined in 1977 and she also was a long-time active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Abbeville.
She is survived by a son, Albert Berry of Arlington VA; a daughter and son-in-law, Phoebe and Michael Rouse of Baton Rouge; grandchildren, Matt Rouse and wife Amy and Tim Rouse; and great grandchildren Catie and Jack Rouse.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lionel James Berry; father, William Mercer Hall, Sr.; mother, Anne Augusta Beale Hall; and two brothers, William Mercer Hall, Jr. and Lindsay Beale Hall.
Pallbearers are Albert Berry, Michael Rouse, Matt Rouse, Tim Rouse, Will Hall and John Hall.
The family request that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home, 209 South Saint Charles, Tuesday, March 4, 2008, from 10:00 a.m. until time of services.
