He will be laid to rest at St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery with Reverend William C. Blanda officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Rome Comeaux, Dirk Detraz, Kyle Comeaux, Patrick Comeaux, Phillip Detraz, Alex Detraz, Brandon Andrepont and Steven Domingue.
Alex was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a veteran of the United States Army who served our country during World War II as a Technician Fourth Grade, Headquarters - Battery 402D Field Artillery.
He is survived by two sons, Deacon Frank Cormier and his wife, Connie of Lafayette, and Jerry Cormier of Lake Charles; daughter, Jeannie Cormier Comeaux and her husband, Daniel of Abbeville; grandchildren, Rome Comeaux, Lisa Comeaux Detraz, Kyle Comeaux, Suzanne Veillon, Rachel Domingue and Katie Andrepont; great grandchildren, Phillip Detraz, Alex Detraz, Patrick Comeaux, Cassie Comeaux, Nathan Veillon, Collin Veillon, Luc Domingue, Jude Domingue and Taylor Andrepont; three brothers, Curley Cormier, Axie Cormier and Thomas Cormier; three sisters, Anne Cormier, Elva Mae "TeMae" Cormier Landry and Irene Cormier Decou.
He was preceded in death by his wife Verna Jeanne Petry Cormier; grandson, Kevin Comeaux; parents, Francois Cormier and the former Selvina Trahan; brothers, Asa Cormier and Willie Cormier; sisters, Marie Edmee Cormier, Jeanne Cormier Landry and Hortense Cormier St. Marie; and two infants.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Wednesday, March 6, 2013, from 8:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. when the procession will depart for the church.
