Dorothy Elizabeth "Grammie" Schleicher

June 3, 1921 — March 10, 2013

Abbeville—Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville honoring the life of Dorothy Elizabeth Schleicher, 91, who died Sunday, March 10, 2013 at her residence.

She will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery with Chaplain Mark Broussard officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Bobby Meaux, Jorge Villasenor, Ty Broussard, Brian Goutierrez, Trey d'Augereau and Logan Issa. Honorary pallbearers will be Lcpl. Castille, Dylan (U.S. Marine Corps), Da'Kota Cessac, Brayton Cessac and Cody Pfeil.


Dorothy "Grammie" was born in Providence, RI on June 3, 1921. She was a residence of Erath, LA. Dorothy was married to John Schleicher in 1952, they were married for 55 years. John served 23 years in the U.S. Army.

Dorothy was known as "Grammie", not only by family members but by many whom loved her dearly. She always shared her smile with others and carried a beautiful spark for life.

Grammie enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, playing bingo, camping, swimming, bowling, golfing, crafts, baking and traveling around the United States while her husband was in the Army, including Germany.

She is survived by her daughter, Dona Marie Meaux and her husband, Aveneal Meaux, Jr.; grandchildren, Bobby Meaux and his wife, Lisa Reeves Meaux, Shelly Meaux, Tonya Meaux Goutierrez and her husband, Brian Goutierrez, Pattie Cosby and her husband, Bryan Cosby, Dottie Ostovich and John Paul Wismer; great grandchildren, Keith Meaux, Mandi Meaux Pheil and her husband, Spc. Pfeil, Aaron (U.S. Army), Megan Cessac Boutte and her husband, Jacob Boutte, Jacqulyne Danielle Villasenor and her husband, Jorge Villasenor, Lcpl. Castille, Dylan (U.S. Marine Corps), Trey d'Augereau, Lena Issa, Logan Issa, Nicole Newton, Thomas Tarver, Rebecca Tarver, Crystal DeDitius, Datie Reyes and her husband, Jason Reyes, Timothy Ostovich, Abbie Wismer and A.J. Wismer; and great great grandchildren, Da'Kota Cessac, Brayton Boutte, Cody Pfeil, Beaux Pfeil and Dakota Newton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Schleicher; son, Robert Paul Wismer; mother, Martha Staples; and father, Salvatore Aprile.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Wednesday, March 13, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. until time of services.

The family would like to thank the staff at Lafayette Heart Hospital and a special thanks to Heart of Hospice, especially three very special wonderful workers, Kizzy Keal, Lilah Broussard and Pastor Mark Broussard for all their outreach of kindness and support.
