Lionel George Porter

May 25, 1924 — March 11, 2008

A memorial service will be held at a later date, honoring the life of Lionel George Porter, 83, of Butte La Rose, who died Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at Abbeville General Hospital.
He is survived by two brothers, Mahlon J. Porter Sr. of Beaumont, TX and Paul P. Porter of Syoset, NY; two sisters, Lorraine Newsum Farmer of Silsbee, TX and Alberta P. LeBlanc of Abbeville, LA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph S. Porter and the former Yvonne Gautreaux; his first wife, Agnes C. Needham Porter; and his second wife Hilda B. Langlinais Porter.
Mr. Porter was retired member of the U.S. Navy where he served in the Korean War. During his time in the Navy he was awarded numerous medals including the Purple Heart and Presidential Unit Citation. He belonged to many organizations through out the United States including K of C, Oakland Moose Lodge, VFW, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart William E. McKenzie chapter 504.
Upon his death he asked that his remains be donated to Tulane University Medical School.
