Nellie B. Landry

Nellie was known by family and friends to be a hard worker. She took care of her yard, flowers, and cut branches from her trees. She enjoyed picking figs and canning them for the family. She also picked pecans in the fall and would shell them to sell. Nellie was an avid seamstress and her last projects were quilts for her grandchildren. She was a waitress at Bouillon’s Restaurant and in the 60’s and 70’s she was employed by Western Auto. Nellie took pride in her work and did what she had to do to support her family after her husband suffered from a stroke in 1962.
She is survived by her two sons, Ronald Landry and his wife, Janet of Abbeville and Lloyd Landry Jr. of Abbeville; one daughter, Cheryl and her husband, Roland Marceaux of Kaplan; one brother, Loree Bertrand of Erath; eight grandchildren, Rhonda King, Sheila Landry, Gabberille Dawn Landry, Crystal Baez, Tammi Carter, Angela Hargrave, Jamie Marceaux, and April Stabler; and eight great grandchildren, Zachary Hargrave, Emily Claire Hargrave, Dalton Marceaux, Ava Marceaux, Evan Gabriel Baez, Skyla King, Sydney King, and Jonathon Pineda.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Landry Sr.; her parents, Edier Bertrand and the former Lorena Hartman; one grandson, Jonathan Marceaux; and her aunt, Agnes Hartman Bernard, who raised both Nellie B. Landry and Loree Bertrand.
The family would like to thank AMG Specialty Hospital, Gueydan Memorial Guest Home, and Dr. Patrick Leleux for the care and compassion showed to their dear mother.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Friday, June 28, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.; Saturday, June 29, 2013 from 9 a.m. until services.
