Nelson Pierre Saltzman Sr.

Kaplan—Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan honoring the life of Nelson Pierre Saltzman Sr., 89, who died Sunday, July 14, 2013 at Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital. He will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend Jason Vidrine officiating the services. The Vermilion Honor Guard will be performing military honors.

Mr. Nelson proudly served our country in the Army. He was an automatic rifleman with Company "A" 362nd Infantry Regiment, 91st Division stationed in Italy. For his service during World War II he received the Purple Heart medal in the name of the President for wounds received in action against the enemy. He also received the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal with three bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and a World War II Victory Medal.

He is survived by five sons, Enson Saltzman, Lawrence Saltzman and his wife, Marcella, Nelson "Tit" Saltzman Jr., Neelis "Pio" Saltzman and his wife, Dana, and Larry Saltzman and his wife, Maxine Saltzman, all of Kaplan; two daughters, Maudrey Gaspard of Sulphur and Kathleen Saltzman of Kaplan; one sister, Sirena Rogers of New Iberia; two brothers, Dalton Saltzman of Kaplan and Peter Saltzman and his wife, Mary of Sulphur; 19 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lennie LeBlanc Saltzman; his parents, Pierre Saltzman and the former Ametia Adams; one daughter-in-law, Shirley Saltzman; one brother, Eddie Saltzman; and three sisters, Dorothy Monceaux, Mathilda Trahan, and Eunice McDaniel.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Monday, July 15, 2013 from 2 p.m. until services on Tuesday, July 16, 2013. A rosary will be prayed Monday at 7 p.m.
